Gaza Blockade Resulting in Electricity Cuts
Ma’an News reports today that the company that runs the An-Nuseirat power plant in Gaza has announced it will have to soon cut electricity service to many of its customers, due to a lack of spare parts for needed repairs. Such spare parts are prevented from entering Gaza due to the ongoing blockade.
The spare parts are needed for the repair of the plant itself and the grid it serves. Both were damaged during Israel’s three-week attack in December 2008 and January 2009. Representatives of the electric company indicate thatthe affected infrastructure would include hospitals, schools, and childcare centers.
