Reflecting on International Human Rights Day, Al-Khudari Calls Gaza Siege a Flagrant Violation of Rights

December 14, 2009

In a statement made to coincide with the 61st anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations on December 10–that is, the day known as International Human Rights Day–Jamal al-Khudari, director of the Gaza-based Popular Committee Against the Siege, called the ongoing blockade of Gaza a “flagrant violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” reports Ma’an News.  Al-Khudari went on to call upon all those in solidarity with Gazans to see in International Human Rights Day a means with which to reflect on the suffering of those in Gaza and to work toward the overturning of the now long-standing siege of the territory by both Israel and Egypt.
