Electricity in Gaza to be Reduced up to 32 Hours a Week

December 18, 2009

Ma’an News reported on Sunday that residents of the Gaza Strip would suffer from drastic electricity cuts in the near future.  Gaza’s inhabitants are expected to face between 18 and 32 hours without electricity per week due to electricity shortages that, in turn, are caused by Israel’s limiting of industrial fuel into Gaza and its blockade of the spare parts needed to perform repairs and maintenance on the Strip’s sole power plant and its grid, which was damaged during last winter’s assault.

The electricity crisis comes at a time when electricity demand typically rises, due to the need for heating during winter months.
